I’ve just finished the Chaunauqua Theatre Festival in Swift Current where my play was almost banned (due to Saskatchewan’s new law banning striptease and burlesque). My show was protested by a pastor who got hauled away by police and as the finale I was kicked offstage by the President of the board of the Lyric Theatre during a 5 minute comedy bit questioning the Saskatchewan Government’s choice to ban striptease and the female nipple. I was censored during my bit on censorship!
Luckily this was all recorded. You can listen to it here:
It has been a rocky road! On the plus side, Swift Current LOVED my show and the audience was incredibly supportive.
Here is my open letter to the Pastor who protested my show:
Dear Pastor who protested outside my show last night,
I so appreciate your concern for my soul and the souls of my audience. Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy soul saving schedule to protest and let me know how special I am to you and God, if only I’d see the error in my ways. I think I’m going to follow your lead and anytime I hear about someone abusing their partner or a local pedophile or people being blatantly homophobic, racist or misogynistic I will pro…test outside of their homes.
It seems with these issues being so prevalent you’d be to busy to worry about me, so again I want to thank you for your time and concern.
You are also in my prayers (heart emoticon)
